Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, where usually retailers offer crazy discounts to get the holiday season started.
What Is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a name people say to describe the day after Thanksgiving. On this day people would line up outside a retail shop even one or two days earlier just to get to the frontline of the shop.
Though there have been so many cases that the shopping mania turned into violence as people were fighting over discounted gadgets and appliances like TVs. Unfortunately, the discounts put up by retailers on Black Friday are only valid for 24 hours which means you must go shop before the day ends or else you will miss the discounts.
Why Is It Called Black Friday?
People believed that the name was first used in Philadelphia in the mid-1960s. The word was used to describe all the people that would crowd the streets the next day after Thanksgiving as people begin to go shopping. However, that makes the name Black Friday ring negatively, and so a new explanation emerges which sounded more positive. It says that Black Friday is the day retailers are turning profit, as positive amounts are usually written in black. On another hand, some retailers are very dependent on Black Friday to help them turn a profit, while other retailers would see this as an opportunity to gain even more profit than what they already have.
