What month are you thinking every time you hear someone mention holidays? Of course, it is December! December is the month people are always waiting for every single year. It is not only about Christmas, but there are also other special events that people celebrate during this month of the year.
Here are some of the reasons December is so special.
1. Hanukkah
Many of us may not know too much about Hanukkah, but it is one of the world’s most significant celebrations. It is a Jewish holiday to commemorate the second temple in Jerusalem, which lasts for eight days. During these eight days, families exchange gifts every night. They would also light up menorah and sing hymns to celebrate.
2. Christmas Eve
The night before Christmas is considered very special. Families usually gather to have dinner at home, set up a Christmas tree, and decorate their house with lights and gift boxes under the tree. It is time to gather and spend time with loved ones.
3. Christmas
Christmas is deemed an exceptional holiday all around the world that falls on 25th December. It is the day where we all exchange the gifts that we prepared with friends and our families. People would also go to church to pray and would later go for dinner together. A lot of people would again wear a Christmas sweater during this day.
4. Boxing Day
Boxing Day falls on 26th December, which is one day after Christmas. Even though it sounds like it is associated with a sport, it is entirely unrelated. Boxing Day is the day that we give to the poor, and often we give gifts to people who work in the service industry like mail carriers, porters, and concierges. Not only that, but it is also considered a shopping day, just like Black Friday, where stores put up big sales.
5. New Year’s Eve
The year always ends with a beautiful celebration on New Year’s Eve. On the night of 31st December, people would prepare fireworks to mark the end of the year and welcome a new year. People hope that they would be able to reach the next goal they have set up for themselves in the upcoming year.
